Be empowered … again?

Worthy News Brief (worthybrief@worthyemail.com) - May 24, 2012

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

As we approach Shavuot this Saturday night, we’re looking at the promise given 2000 years ago: that normal people will lead extraordinary lives; that disciples, who were terrified on the night of Jesus’ death, were transformed into bold saints of God; and that fishermen, tax collectors, and housewives — normal everyday people — became empowered, and turned the Roman Empire inside out and upside down!

In Acts 2, we read about the initial outpouring of the Spirit during Shavuot. Just a few chapters later the same saints who had been once filled to overflowing, sought to be refilled again [Acts 4]. It was not a one time experience, but rather a constant refilling of the Spirit which they needed to change their world. They repeatedly sought to be empowered to accomplish whatever task God assigned to them. They just kept going back, to the well that never runs dry, and so they kept getting filled — and refilled — and refilled again!

Don’t ever become spiritually “satisfied”! Seek to be filled — once filled — seek to be refilled! And refilled again! How do we live in a constant state of revival? By always seeking MORE! In doing so, God will empower everyday folk like us to turn our world inside out and upside down!

You can’t escape it!

Worthy News Brief (worthybrief@worthyemail.com) - May 15, 2012

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Every day roughly 150,000 around the world die. Death has a way of raising our spiritual temperature and quickening us to re-evaluate life…especially to ask, “Am I doing all that I can do?”

Have you ever heard of how the Nobel Peace Prize originated?

Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, awoke one morning in 1888, shocked to discover his own obituary in the morning news. The newspaper had mistakenly printed the story about Alfred, instead of his brother, who had just passed away. As he read his own epitaph, the story of the “Dynamite King”, the great industrialist who made an immense fortune from explosives — Alfred Nobel was rudely awakened to the fact that the world viewed him as a merchant of death! The mistake was not wasted on him. Rather, it served as his wake up call!

As he read his obituary with horror, Alfred resolved to make clear to the world his understanding of the true meaning and purpose of his life. So he used his immense fortune to create a foundation which would promote and embody his ideal for world peace…and he is now remembered, not as the “Dynamite King”, but the creator of what we know now as the “Nobel Peace Prize.”

Let’s allow this little message to be our wake up call. Let’s re-evaluate our lives, look within…and ask ourselves, “Are we truly doing all that we can be doing for the Lord?” Because when this life is finally past, and our deeds are all recorded in the “Books”, only what was done with and for the Lord, will last…forever!

Badgering can be a good thing!

Worthy News Brief (worthybrief@worthyemail.com) - May 16, 2012

Proverbs 30:26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

Unless you’re up on your biology, you’re probably wondering, “What in the world is a coney?” I certainly was. After doing a little research, I discovered that a coney is a rock badger.

These little critters make their homes in rocks and in sides of mountains — only venturing away from their rocky homes in the quest for food. While the badger stays within his home of rocks, he is safe from his natural predators. He stays close to home because he realizes his limitations. Badgers recognize that they do not have strength within themselves —- their strength lies in the rocks they call home.

So it should be for us as believers. We, too, must recognize our limitations! We need to be aware that like the conies, we are feeble folk! If we venture too far away from our Rock, Yeshua (Jesus) — we will become vulnerable, easy prey! But if we stay within the shelter of our Rock, we can rest in the security He provides!

The winds and storms of this world can shake us up a bit — but they don’t sway the Rock! Let’s make sure our homes are built in the safest place there is. Let’s build on the Rock.

Romans 12:17-18,21 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

One minister tells of a wife who came into his office full of hatred toward her husband. “I do not only want to get rid of him, I want to get even! Before I divorce him, I want to hurt him as much as he has hurt me!”

The minister suggested an ingenious plan “Why don’t you go home and act as if you really love your husband. Tell him how much he means to you. Praise him for every decent trait. Go out of your way to be as kind, considerate and generous as possible. Spare no efforts to please him. Make him believe you love him. Then — after you’ve convinced him of your undying love and that you cannot live without him, drop the bomb. Tell him you want a divorce. That will really hurt him.

“With revenge in her eyes, she smiled and exclaimed, “Beautiful, beautiful! Boy, will he ever be devastated!” And she did it with enthusiasm. For two months she showed love and kindness, she listened, served and reinforced. When she didn’t return to his office, the minister called. “So, are you ready now to go through with the divorce?” “Divorce?” she exclaimed. “Never! I discovered that I really do love him.”

This woman’s actions changed her feelings. Whether it’s a tough relationship, a long-time fear, or a task that seems too big for us to accomplish, sometimes we need to act in faith in order to see it conquered for the Kingdom!

Whatever it may be, let’s give it to the Lord today and ask Him to motivate us to go forth with strength and passion — for His sake!

Don’t look down!

Worthy News Brief (worthybrief@worthyemail.com)- May 18, 2012

Psalms 98:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.

Years ago, a young sailor went to sea for the first time. Not long after setting sail his ship encountered a heavy storm and the sailor was commanded to go aloft and trim the sails. About three quarters of the way up, the young sailor made the mistake of looking down. The roll of the ship combined with the tossing of the waves made for a frightening experience. The young man started to lose his balance. At that moment, an older sailor underneath him shouted, “Look up, son! Look up!” The young sailor did as he said — he looked up, and regained his balance.

Similarly, when our focus is on the circumstances that we face, the waves of life, we can easily lose our balance and our direction. But when we change our focus and simply “look up”, our internal spiritual compass fixed on the Lord will restore our stability, and enable us to finish the assignments we’ve been given and get to the top!

Are you feeling unstable today? Look up! The Lord will steady you. Heaven is your goal and God will provide the power and direction to bring you safely there!

Are You a Good Person? (by thewayofthemaster)

Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. - Psalm 37:4

These happened when I was rejoicing in The Lord.

When I woke up in the morning, I saw my mother was cooking as usual. I thought to myself, “I want china egg rice (rice cooked with salt and egg without cooking oil)”.

So I said to my mother, “Mom, what are you cooking?

And my mother answered, “China egg rice”.

Wow! It was surprising to me, that my mother cooked me the food I wanted to eat though I had not told her about it.

I think that this must be from The Lord :)

And in the afternoon, I had English and Civics Education test. It was difficult. And as usual, I asked The Lord for help. And indeed, He helped me! :D

He helped me to remember the things I had learned and as a result I could answer all of the Civics Education test questions well. And I got 100 for the English test :D

The LORD always gives me what I need, although I sin against HIM

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. - Matthew 5:45
